An unusual pierced vegetable ivory thimble. c 1850

A  honey coloured vegetable ivory thimble made from the kernel of a corozo nut.

While it is soft it can be worked and once dried it is completely solid. Items made of vegetable ivory usually have natural flaws or colour variations. This thimble has a few dark spots which aren't unattractive.

It is unusual in that it has a pierced border.
